FAQ

There are many reasons for people to go read the FAQ.  Usually, the individual coming here is looking for specific answers. Whether or not you'll find the answer here is a toss up.  However, I'll keep updating this page as questions come up, so that, over time, the answer to your question may show up.

About This Site

  • Why are you here?
  • There are a lot of good sites featuring open source projects.  In fact, I applaud the efforts of Freshmeat and Source Forge.  They have done more for open source than the vast majority of open source sites.  However, there are certain projects that simply aren't on those sites.  It doesn't mean that they won't accept these projects.  Quite on the contrary, they will probably accept those projects in an instant.  However, because of their association with some open source projects, they usually don't attract these projects.  Specifically, you typically won't find Win32 or DOS projects there.

As a result, most people associate Open Source with Linux, and that simply isn't true.  So, I decided to create a site that covers BSD, Linux, DOS and Win32 projects.  This way, you have a site to go to to find projects for various operating systems.

  • How come some sites are links, while others are on this site?

  •
This site is privately supported and hosted by a commercial web hosting company.  So, I am somewhat limited in funds and must be selective as to what projects can reside on this site.   So, if the project has a site of its own, then we only link to that site.

  • How can I get my project on this site?

  •
Send email to patv@opensourcedepot.com to describe your project.  We'll get back to you as soon as possible.
